Bernie Sanders shows support for trans housing rights

It’s been one win after another this week for Bernie Sanders. He took the lead over frontrunner Hilary Clinton in New Hampshire. He raked in more than $24 million dollars in the third quarter, which is just $4 million less than Clinton. And a single tweet from the senator’s campaign reflects the biggest effort by any candidate to appeal to transgender voters and allies.

Both sexual orientation and gender identity aren’t technically covered under the federal Fair Housing Act, according to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
However, transgender Americans can still file complaints if they believe they have been treated unfairly.

Transgender supporters of Bernie have formed their own Facebook group, rallying support for the Bern.

It wasn’t just the tweet that has the LGBT community in support for Bernie. Sanders has also been a supporter of LGBT equality, supporting the Employment Non-Discrimination Act when it passed the Senate in 2013 and calling out Obama evolve and support marriage equality in 2011, four years before it became a reality. Oh yeah, he also cosponsors the federal LGBT-inclusive Student Non-Discrimination Act.

Bernie has a perfect score of 100 percent on the Human Rights Campaign’s latest Congressional Equality Index.

Are you feeling the Bern yet?
