LGBT content filter disbanded

Symantec, a leading internet filter company recently removed their “LGBT content” toggle meaning LGBT information will no longer be blocked from public space internet. Previously, this toggle created difficulty for people with access to internet from public places such as schools or libraries attempting to access gay news websites, GLAAD, and most alarmingly, gay teen suicide websites such as the Trevor Project website.
Symantec recognized that a standard LGBT label does not equate to pornography. GLAAD’s CEO Sarah Kate Ellis released a statement saying, “Symantec gets it. It’s time that our software reflects our values, and that means filtering out discrimination.”
