Kesha Releases ‘Joyride’ Music Video, Announces New Single
A new music video has been released by the artist Kesha, for her most recent release JOYRIDE. The song, which came out initiallyon July 4, has been described by many as a return to Kesha’s roots as an electronic pop star, with Variety describing it as “an electro-pop banger perfectly timed to summer.” Vulture similarly described the single as “a two-and-a-half minute celebration, soundtracked by some polka-inspired beats, heavy synth and sheer confidence.”
The music video leans into the song’s summer anthem status, with Kesha racing down a desert highway in a vintage red convertible that matches her multiple outfits throughout the video. She is chased by a helicopter and various cars, each equipped with its own cartoonishly named hitmen such as “Susie the Stabber,” “Rowdy Ricky” and “Derk the Delusional,” played by bodybuilder and actor Mike O’Hearn.
The single also marked a new era for the artist, as Kesha formed her own record label “Kesha Records” and coordinated a new deal with the independent label and artist services of Warner Music Group earlier this year, according to Billboard. The new deal came after Kesha split with her previous label Kemosabe Records, a label that was founded by record producer Lukasz Gottwald, whom Kesha was in a lengthy defamation suit with before it resolved last summer. “My name has become synonymous with transparency, integrity, and safety, and I want to ensure these values are upheld for myself and any future artists signed to my label,” Kesha says in a press release.
Kesha is set to release her own album under the new record label in 2025, according to a press release from Big Hassle Media, the publicity firm that represents Kesha. But until then, the artist will also be releasing a new single coming out on November 29, DELUSIONAL.
