Vice President Kamala Harris released her first campaign ad shortly after President Joe Biden dropped out of the race. Harris’ new ad displays a wide demographic of voters across America—including many of those in the LGBTQ+ community—while Beyoncé’s song “Freedom” plays in the background. The superstar reportedly permitted Harris to use her song for her campaign earlier this week, and what a perfect choice it was.
Like Harris says in the ad, “In this election, we each face a question: What kind of country do we want to live in?”

“There are some people who think we should be a country of chaos, of fear, of hate,” she says as images of Trump and his running mate, Ohio Senator J.D. Vance, flash across the screen. “But us? We choose something different. We choose freedom.”
The ad then plays a montage of diverse crowds at Harris’s rallies, people of color holding up signs, and families smiling and laughing together. It also features Harris taking a picture with a black woman veteran hugging another woman, both of which are sporting rainbows in their clothes, as well as a sea of her queer supporters waving Progress Pride flags during an appearance at the LAX Airport on June 1.
Harris posted footage from this event on her social media pages the following day. One video features a drag queen wishing her a “Happy Pride” and a young girl telling Harris, “I want to be vice president like you one day.” To which she responds, “Well, you will be.”
