Superhero Magick: Be Your Own Hero

Even though the days of Hercules are far behind us, people still look to larger-than-life archetypes for strength, But instead of finding inspiration in myths about gods, in modern times, we look to superheroes. Some think that, just like the gods of old, the collective consciousness of modern superheroes is so strong that they have become thought forms that can lend their superhuman strength to anyone who seeks to tap into the resource.
So if you’d like to give superhero magick a try, here’s how you can get started:
Pick Your Hero
Think about your favorite superheroes. You could watch your favorite movie starring your hero or read a graphic novel featuring your hero to get inspired. Take note of what parts of the story really speak to you. Why would you like to incorporate your hero’s attributes into your life?
Communicate with your Superhero
You need to gain your hero’s consent to work with them. Whether you think the answers come from the subconscious or from beyond, this is crucial to connecting intention to action to will to manifestation. You can ask your hero using tarot, a pendulum, or you could even flip a coin. Once you have consent, it’s time to create a power object.
Creating a Talisman
Does your hero have a special transformation object or a meaningful piece of jewelry that you can buy or create? If you don’t like to wear jewelry, you could even choose a keychain with your hero on it or even draw your hero’s symbol with intention on a piece of paper.
Charging the Talisman
Just like a piece of electronics, a talisman doesn’t work unless it’s charged. While you work, you may want to play your hero’s theme song, wear your hero’s color, or even cosplay your hero. Think about your intention for creating the talisman. Write your magick words that will activate your talisman.
Example: My superhero guardian is Sailor Moon. I have been working with her energetically since I was a tween because she reminds me that love is our greatest weapon in the fight for justice. If I wanted to charge a Sailor Moon talisman, I would hold it in my right hand and chant:
Sailor Moon, please help me wield the power of love.
Another option could be to use your hero’s words of power—a phrase or word that the hero uses in battle.
You may chant your words of power as many times as you choose. The important part is that you focus your intention in such a way that you are able to internalize the attribute you are seeking. Carry your talisman, or wear it while you forge a relationship with your hero and work with their energy. Write down any experiences that stand out to you.
Mantra: “I’m ready to be my own hero.“
