“DJ, put on the beat,” said 10f0r10 member J’lynn Terroade.

10for10 is a group of young POC activists in Denver that exclusively work with community engagement projects. The youth group hosted a Pop -Up Fashion Show and brought vendors, artists, music, and community at Martin Luther King High School (MLK) on July 10.

The hot, 100 degree day did not turn people away from immersing themselves in the local art and fashion with about 64 local artists, vendors, artists, rappers present. Models volunteered to turn up the DIY fashion event to show off the featured looks. From handmade clothes to fluid paint canvases, there was creativity in ever corner.

“We all have a little bit of art,” said J’lynn Terroade. Since closures and shut-downs, young artists have been having a difficult time getting their work out there for people to see. The young activists of 10f0r10 reached out to the principal of MLK and asked to host an event for the community.

In-between the showcasing of different fashion designers work on the runway, there were music performances by N3ptune, aastacks (Aaliyah Ali), as well as others.

As people sat and watched the models and performances, the Parasol Patrol wasn’t too far away, on the look-out for any counter protesters.

Parasol Patrol founder Eli Bazan explained, “We use our umbrellas to shield protesters from others. Parasol Patrol wants to do what we can to let our youth raise their voices.”

10for10 also host community clean up events such as one that recently occurred on July 12. “We need to make sure we preserve our community,” said Elijah Young, a youth activist from the group.

As the sun pulled back against the clouds and the vendors packed up for the day, 10for10 required all participants to bring three pieces of trash to the DJ booth when the fashion show was over.  The evening then led to a candlelight vigil to honor young POC people who have been killed by police brutality.
